But the source of that power, as Veliz so incredibly hones in on, is not that the predictions themselves are accurate or actionable. Rather, it is the promise of prophecy that confers power. Utilitarianism, at least as Silicon Valley has internalized it, is a con based on the false promise of total understanding, total prediction, and the utter elimination of human freedom.
